The Role of Coral Reef Small-Scale Fisheries for Addressing Malnutrition and Avoiding Biodiversity Loss
Recent research has focused on how to protect reefs from climate change impacts, but reefs are not isolated systems. Fish and coral larvae are actively exchanged across regions, and some reefs supply more while others receive more. This report looked at the source dynamics of reefs globally and found that maintaining these networks is essential for biodiversity conservation and sustainable fisheries. |

The objective of this study is to align the Convention on Biological Diversity’s post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF) with the remit and scope of the UNEP Regional Seas Programme (RSP) and make recommendations to improve and strengthen compatibility. Building on the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, it is widely recognized that there are important marine aspects that contribute to targets which need to be addressed. |
