Second Round Regional Workshops
Second Round Regional Workshops
Regional Workshop on ocean governance and the science-policy interface (Component I) and in support of the development of the third World Ocean Assessment (Component II) for the Indian Ocean (including the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal), the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and the ROPME/RECOFI regions
The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, in collaboration with UNEP-Nairobi Convention Secretariat, organized a crucial two-part regional workshop aimed at establishing connections between science, policy, indigenous knowledge, and innovation in ocean governance. The workshop introduced participants to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and ocean management frameworks at various levels, with a focus on sustainable development. It also emphasized the third World Ocean Assessment (WOA III), a critical resource providing scientific information about marine biodiversity, ocean warming, acidification, and sea-level rise. WOA III is an essential outcome of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the States of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects, conducted every five years.
