Capacity development in Marine Spatial Planning Tools and Information Management in the Western Indian Ocean Region
The workshop’s objectives are to raise awareness of the regional Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) strategy for the Western Indian Ocean, promote harmonization of MSP processes among different government levels, enhance national capacities for information and data management in support of ocean governance, and strengthen national data experts’ skills for MSP implementation.
The expected outcomes include participants gaining an appreciation for MSP’s role in protecting the Western Indian Ocean, better understanding of MSP development processes and data requirements, enhanced expertise for MSP implementation, sharing of best practices and lessons learned, and empowering National Data Centers to update and integrate data into the WIO Symphony tool effectively to support marine spatial planning efforts.
This workshop will take place between 20 – 24 November 2023, in Mombasa, Kenya.
