Integrating Research into Marine Conservation – The Seychelles

The Nairobi Convention Secretariat spoke with former fisheries biologist at the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA), now consultant- Dr. Jude Bijoux- on the science-to-policy marine conservation process at the Seychelles, as well as about his illustrious career.

What you need to know about the plastic pollution resolution

Heads of State, Ministers of environment and other representatives from 175 nations endorsed a landmark, international legally binding agreement that addresses the full lifecycle of plastic from source to sea. 400 million tons of plastic are produced per year– a figure set to double by 2040.

Research cruise paves way for ecosystem-based management of fisheries resources in Maputo Bay

An ecosystem research cruise in Maputo Bay by the Fisheries Research Institute, under supervision of the Ministry (MIMAIP) is conducting a survey to inform management plans for fisheries and marine environment. It is supported by the SWIOFC-NC partnership project, executed jointly by the FAO and UNEP.

Seychellois Can Submit Proposals to Global Project Seeking to Improve Management of Plastic Waste

The Basel Convention has opened a second call for pilot projects under its Plastic Waste Partnership and interested parties in Seychelles can submit their proposals to the Ministry of Environment for endorsement. The deadline for submission of proposals is April 11, 2022.

Worshop on observing the coastal and marginal seas in the WIO and the Arabian/Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman

A hybrid workshop will take place on 7th – 9th June, 2022. This workshop will encourage countries bordering the WIO to be engaged in coastal observing programs and research as partners and will also identify training needs, and provide learning from established programs.

States band together to save migratory species

The 15th meeting of parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity will take place next month, and world leaders are expected to endorse a global roadmap to conserve and restore biodiversity and ecosystems over the next decade. Biodiversity loss is one of the world’s greatest environmental challenges facing the planet today.

Vacancy: Regional Constructed Wetlands Expert

The Nairobi Convention is seeking a consultant to carry out a topographic survey, conduct operation and maintenance training, (re)design a constructed wetland system and oversee its rehabilitation and augmentation for Msingini Waste Water Treatment Plant System. The consultant will co-design the rehabilitation system with other experts and institutions.
