Kenya’s fish up for grabs after French firm terminates surveillance deal

Foreign fishing vessels have invaded Kenya’s Indian Ocean waters after a French company terminated a surveillance contract with the government, exposing the country to billions of shillings worth of losses. The lack of surveillance capability has exposed Kenya to a loss of at least 20 million tons of seafood, valued at more than Sh10 billion, this year alone.

Tanzania: Govt Sets Aside 50bn/ – for Kilwa Modern Fish Port

The Tanzanian government has set aside 50 billion TSHs to be spent on the construction of a modern fishing port in Kilwa District, Lindi region, as part of efforts to promote the fishing sector in the country. The project will play a crucial role in enhancing blue economy efforts in the region through increasing revenue collections for Kilwa.
