All Coral Reefs in the Western Indian Ocean at High Risk of Collapse Within 50 Years

From this study focused on coral reefs in ten countries in the Western Indian Ocean, a framework to assess how close ecosystems are to collapse was developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It found reefs in all sub-regions to be at high risk of complete ecosystem collapse and irreversible damage.

KMFRI/OTGA Fundamentals of Ocean Mapping – Training Course

This course is about seafloor features, properties and tools used to characterize it. The main objective is to realize the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in supporting the three societal outcomes that are critical in ocean mapping. This is following a global call to ensure that the global oceans seafloor is fully mapped at high resolution by the year 2030.

Seychelles’ former president shares Blue Economy successes with South East Asian Nations

The former president of Seychelles shared the initiatives that Seychelles has taken, especially the deal with the Paris Club and The Nature Conservancy known as the Debt-to-Adaptation Swap, whereby repayment of an international debt of $21 million was cancelled in exchange for investment in the Blue Economy.

Ongoing Event: COP13 of the Abidjan Convention

The third meeting of the Bureau of COP13 of the Abidjan Convention commenced on 13 December and runs until 17 December 2021, under the theme “Ocean governance for sustainable development of the countries of the Abidjan Convention”. This meeting follows the third meeting of the Bureau of COP12 of the Abidjan Convention who decided on the dates for the 13th COP.

Towards Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa Conference

The second International Conference of the African Marine Waste Network (AMWN), a programme of Sustainable Seas Trust (SST), will focus on the actions and interventions that need to take place at every step of the value chain to move Africa towards the vision of no plastics entering the environment and, ultimately, the seas.
