Professional background:

Since 2014, I have been working as a senior policy advisor in international oceans and fisheries issues at the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). Although based in Sweden, SSNC runs a global program in which we support (with funds from Sida) and collaborate with roughly 40 CSO:s from low income countries (including East Africa). Much of our advocacy work (on national, international level) centres around fisheries, and particularly small-scale fisheries.

However, I am also a member of the EU Long Distance Fishing Advisory Council (LDAC) in which we deal with broader fisheries issues related to EU-third party Fisheries Agreements, IUU-fishing, International Ocean Governance, Management, Transparency issues etc. In addition to fisheries, much of my work focuses on biodiversity conservation, and especially the link between biodiversity and human rights.  We recently ended a three year project in which we analyzed stakeholders perception of MPAs/LMMAs in Kenya and Senegal, which concluded in a report.

Apart from running grassroot workshops, analyzing data, writing reports and positions, engaging in consultations and regional/international processes, and when time allows, I also give lectures on the above mentioned subjects, as well as supervising master students. Given my academic background in marine science as well as gender/social science - all my professional work takes on an interdisiplicinary approach and is well-rooted in human rights and gender equity.

SSNC further works for global solidarity and poverty reduction, and has a firm belief that civil society is an essential catalyst for change.
