My work focuses human disturbance and environmental variability affect persistence and recovery of marine systems, and how we can manage complex systems for long term sustainability. I have worked for over 20 years designing research and conservation projects to address conservation challenges in East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean. I use a combination of tools including capacity building, field studies, collaborative research, development of management strategies, and long-term data collection.
Dr. Gabriela Fernandez is an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Geography and Principal Investigator at the Center for Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age at San Diego State University, CA. She is the Graduate Advisor of the Big Data Analytics Master of Science Program at SDSU. She received a Ph.D. in Urban Planning, Design, and Policy from the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy.
Domenico Vito, PhD engineer, works in European projects on air quality in northern Italy. He has been an observer of the Conferences of the Parties since 2015 - the year in which the Paris Agreement was approved by the parties.
Worked with sustainable ecosystem based marine management for regional and national governmental agencies in Sweden since 2006. Coordinating transboundary collaboration and planning at different scales: from local to international. Priorities are creating and strengthening networks and collaborations contributing to a sustainable society. During 2012-2019, responsible for coordinating the regional development of one of three MSPs in Sweden.
