The Nairobi Convention, under the ACP MEAs 3 Programme, drafted a Regional Ocean Acidification Action Plan and a 10-year implementation plan for the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) to enhance ocean governance, mitigate acidification, and build resilience. The plan focused on policy integration, pollution reduction, marine habitat restoration, and regional collaboration through monitoring and research.
The Ocean Acidification Workshop (January 27–28, 2025) aimed to validate the action plan by incorporating stakeholder inputs and finalizing strategies. Expected outcomes included an approved action plan, a roadmap for implementation, strengthened regional collaboration, and enhanced institutional capacity for OA adaptation. Experts in attendance underwent a technical review of the Regional Action Plan, giving recommendations.
