Project Summary:
Houssoyni Housseni, born in Mohéli island from Comoros, holds a Master Degree in Development with specialization in Environment management from French speaker University (Université Senghor, Campus de Burkina-Faso);an Engineering Degree in Naturals resources protection and conservation (Ecosystems service, Ecology, marine sciences) from University of Applied Sciences and Technology, Tehran-Iran; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Sciences and Environment (Geology, Ecology and Chemistry) from University of Comoros.
It's already been 9 years since I worked at Mohéli National Park. I hold the position of marine and coastal environment project manager for this protected area. I am responsible for the implementation of all marine activities in the protected area, in particular ecosystem management, management of fishery resources but also scientific monitoring of marine and coastal ecosystems and their associated species.
Located at the northern entrance to the Mozambique Channel, the Comoros archipelago has one of the most productive fishery industries in the Western Indian Ocean region. Yet illegal fishing has become a threat not just to the industry, but also to the ocean ecosystem itself.

Created in 1995, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment (INRAPE) is a public institution of scientific and technical nature under the technical authority of the Ministry (s) of trusteeship. For the purposes of this law, the term Agriculture includes both Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Water Its mission is to monitor the sanitary and phytosanitary state of national production against pests: territorial surveillance and pest control resorting to modern plant protection techniques.

The following country report begins with an overview of coastal livelihoods in Comoros, which provides a concise overview of the seven sector reports and the findings of the in-country and regional consultants. This overview ends with a conclusion which summarizes the collected information as it relates to the coastal zone in Comoros in general. This overview is followed by the more detailed sector reports, which represent the original contributions by the in-country and regional consultants.
