The Swedish support to Africa through the UNEP Africa Marine and Coastal Programme was instrumental in a number of ways in catalysing national action at both the Nairobi Convention and Abidjan Convention countries.
The objectives of the Agreement were:
Mapping of Nairobi Convention’s Activities to the Sustainable Development Goals Target, focusing was on the 2018-2022 Work Programme, WIOSAP and SAPPHIRE Project Outputs and Outcomes
SDG 14 offers a great opportunity to advance ocean sustainability in the WIO to address current and emerging threats.It is underpinned by targets addressing conservation and sustainable use of the ocean, seas and marine resources, including coastal zones, and targets referring to capacity building and ocean governance.
This report covers a regional workshop on cooperation in preparedness and response to marine pollution incidents in Eastern Africa and the Western Indian Ocean, held from 3 to 5 March 2020 in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
This report supports the preparatory work for a regional workshop on cooperation in preparedness and response to marine spills in Eastern Africa and the Western Indian Ocean, held from 3 to 5 March 2020 in the Republic of Tanzania. The context of current oil spill preparedness in the region is that significant work has been undertaken, primarily under the aegis of international projects and donor agency programmes.
