Coastal and Marine Experts in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) Region
My marine research career started in the early 1990s at the Ministry of Fisheries. In 2001, I joined the Mauritius Oceanography Institute where I am currently the Director. My pre and post doctoral experience stem from participation in several local, regional and international projects in coral taxonomy, coral reef ecology, phylogenetics, phylogeography and population genetics.

Salomão Bandeira holds a PhD from Gothenburg University (Sweden), currently Associate Professor at UEM, Mozambique and was visiting to University of Cape Verde PhD program (2014-2017).

Shannon Hampton is the Programme Manager at IOI-SA. She coordinates the IOI-SA Course in Ocean Governance for Africa that runs annually. She is passionate about responsible fisheries practice and helped initiate the IOI-SA’s Small-scale fisheries work in 2016. She completed her PhD in a multidisciplinary study on small pelagic fish stock structure at the University of Cape Town. Her MSc, also at UCT, investigated the impact of flipper bands on African Penguins while her BSc (Hons) projects focused on inter-tidal invasive species.
I have been working at the Ministry for Environment for the past 21 years in Coastal Zone Management . I specialise in erosion and coastal protection works .
I also have experience in environment impact assessment and environmental pollution abatement.

I’m land planner working at national level since 2002.
